If you get a chance, click on Special Pages - it'll give you an idea of what functions the site has. I'm still learning myself. Another thing you can do is check out Wikipedia.org, as there are some features of that site that will work very well here. At the moment, all I know how to do is post text... over the next couple of days, I'm hoping to master a few different templates as well. For instance, I'm going to have to work out how to do a Contents template.

For now, we will have four administrators. They are myself, DaveW NMWBloods and User:Brodoc. Hopefully, we won't have too many problems and we won't have to actually do anything until the site gets considerably larger. I'm open for suggestions (as I am for everything) as to how future administrators can be selected - please post your thoughts below.
For a brief overview of the Teams concept, go to Team:Sydney Swans. Please post any questions or thoughts you have on that page's talk page, which can be reached through the link at the top of the article.

I don't know about you, but from my POV a flower isn't exactly the best logo for a footy site. If any of you creative souls want to experiment with logos for Footywiki, that'd be great. - Charlie
Please take some time to read the Wikia Terms of Use, which can be found at [1]. A wiki is a completely different type of media to any that some of us have ever worked with. It's important to understand how the service works. At the end of the day, Wikia is providing us with a service that costs them, not us, so if they want to impose a few rules... fair enough. Charlie
This is my first post, so I hope I'm doing this right.
In addition to the aforementioned suggested articles, I was thinking footywiki could have the following:
- Scores and summary of each game - either one page for each match or one page for each round
- Summary for each season (including the ladder) "that was the season that was" sort of thing
- Leading goalkickers - all time and for each season
- Brownlow medal counts
- Draft lists
Could even expand into SANFL and WAFL over time.
Might think of more later.
DaveW
(Charlie) I like all of these ideas. I have in mind, once we get more members, a Hall of Fame/Brownlow Medal Team to ensure that recipients of those awards have pages. Perhaps the Brownlow counts could be a side-project of that.
If you're planning to approach people you know to participate, you can use the link to Introduction for new members. Don't be shy about approaching people; the more we have working on this site, the more extensive it will be. Charlie
This Barry Hall article is an example of a starting edit. The article isn't exhaustive, and still requires work, but provides an outline around which further edits can be made. Charlie
There is now a Footywiki:census page. Simply list your name and the date you joined the site. We may be able to replace this with a Footywiki-specific user list at some point, but until then, it's worth keeping track of the site's growth.
Policy_discussion has been created to discuss possible issues. Please post any ideas that you have.
Just curious, is anyone working on getting a team up? I've left the page alone for a couple of weeks to see if any developments happened independently, and it seems there have been none.
[edit] WikiProject AFL
G'day everyone, just noticed this site which looks pretty good. I've done a fair bit of work over at Wikipedia - see this link: [2]. When I started there a couple of months ago there were about 30-40 articles on players...now there are around 1,000+ articles there. Unfortunately not many other people really know about it...should we merge the two communities or what?
- Merge in what sense? Ideally the two should complement each other. There are a lot of details, in-depth articles and personal views that wouldn't fit on Wikipedia, but would fit here. And there are a lot of related but off-topic articles that fit on Wikipedia but wouldn't fit here. What would be great is if you can get a good flow of contributors between the two projects, with additions to both that give the ultimate AFL resource. If that's what you mean - then go for it! -- sannse (talk) 19:23, 24 April 2006 (UTC)
- By merge I mean transfer the footy information onto this site. The thing is I'm wondering where I would find members for both projects? It's hard to get people interested enough in the project...I reckon the BigFooty community would be interested but they probably don't understand what the project is about...
- Copying over information from Wikipedia is fine, although you should acknowledge the source of course (just type {{Wikia:Wikipedia|page name}} at the bottom of the article.) It doesn't matter if it's in two places at first, because the two will develop differently to match the different focuses of the two projects.
- On attracting people to this Wikia, that's always difficult. There is some advice on the Central promotion page, and more about improving wikis to help build communities at "Improving your Wikia". Mostly it's about getting out there, talking to people and telling them what a wiki is and how they can get involved. It has to be done without spamming of course, but if you do it right people will be interested and will slowly join in.
- By the way, you might want to get an account, and then you can sign posts here by typing ~~~~. It helps in working out who is saying what :) -- sannse (talk) 13:41, 14 May 2006 (UTC)
- I've signed up. Anyway I encourage anyone who sees this to join WikiProject AFL to join an AFL community - I think these two communities can work together because I feel there are some limitations, footy wise on Wikipedia. Rogerthat 10:23, 16 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AFL Drafts
I've added all drafts (mid-season, pre-season and National) from 1986 to 1997. Eg, 1990 National Draft, 1990 Pre-season Draft etc. We might need to get consensus on how to organise them. If anyone is good with coding there should be a way to automatically create player pages with their draft information. Rogerthat 10:10, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Hello
