The game between Adelaide and Geelong was first game in VFL/AFL history to be cancelled outright after the death of Adelaide coach Phil Walsh
Grand Final Eve for the AFL became a public holiday in Victoria
The first AFL game featuring four field umpires was played between Brisbane and Gold Coast
The Western Storm lost it's TFL license after the season finished
The Casey Cardinia FL changed it's name to the South East FL
The Mallee FL in Victoria folded
The Northern Tasmanian FL changed it's name to the North West FL
The Leven FA went into recess prior to folding
